Kentucky Lottery celebrates record $8B total earnings milestone

The Kentucky Lottery is celebrating a record-breaking milestone Tuesday.

The Lottery generated more than $8 billion in total earnings for the Commonwealth since its inception in 1989, according to the organization.

“Each year, lottery proceeds fuel scholarships and grants that have empowered over 1.1 million Kentucky students and their families,” President and CEO Maggie Garrison said. “Our contribution to education is a remarkable milestone and reflects the Kentucky Lottery’s transformative impact on our state.”

A record $419 million in total case dividends was transferred to the state in fiscal year 2026, a Lottery official said. To see a full list of programs funded by the Kentucky Lottery, click here.

Then the Lottery also had record sales totaling $2.38 billion in fiscal year 2026, which is $224 million more than fiscal year 2025.

Kentucky Lottery winners also won a record $1.78 billion in prizes in fiscal year 2026, Lottery officials said. Retailers earned more than $80 million in commissions and incentive payments during the fiscal year as well.
