College basketball is all about your strength of schedule and who you play to strengthen your “resume” for the March Madness tournament.
First reported just after noon on May 20 by sportswriter Jon Rothstein, the two schools have agreed to discontinue their six-game series.
Now, Kentucky and Gonzaga will have to fill their schedules with non-conference opponents elsewhere.
Kentucky only got three games out of the series that saw them go 1-2, including a comeback overtime win in Seattle in 2024-25 and a blowout loss in Nashville in 2025-26.
While neither school will have problems finding opponents, it could affect the level of competition they face, which may impact their seeding come March for the NCAA tournament.
