The Kentucky State Police (KSP) has confirmed that the road closure of Highway 33 outside of Danville in Boyle County was due to a fatal car accident.
According to a press release, the incident occurred around 11 a.m. on Sunday.
Hector Sanchez, 55, of Burgin was traveling south on Shakertown (Highway 33) Road in a 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis when he lost control of the vehicle. The press release states that Sanchez regained control of the vehicle, and when he entered into the roadway, he crossed into the northbound lane and collided with Ernest Robinson, 67, of McKee.
Robinson was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado and was traveling north on Shakertown Road.
As a result of the accident, Sanchez was killed and pronounced dead by the Boyle County Coroner. Robinson survived the incident and was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
KSP is currently investigating the incident. According to the press release, Trooper Tyler Holt was assisted on the scene by Kentucky State Police personnel, Boyle County Sheriff’s Department, Boyle County EMS, Boyle County Fire Department, Mercer County Sheriff’s Department, and the Boyle County Coroner’s Office.
