Kentucky Falls to Oklahoma in SEC Tournament Quarterfinals

Georgia Amoore scored 29 points and handed out seven assists, but the 12th-ranked Kentucky women’s basketball team lost to No. 10 Oklahoma 69-65 on Friday in the quarterfinals of the 2025 Southeastern Conference Tournament.

Kentucky (22-7) got 12 points and a career-high 16 rebounds from Clara Strack, while Dazia Lawrence added 11 points.

Oklahoma (25-6) scored the first two points of the game, but a Teonni Key bucket tied the game at 2-2. After the Sooners scored, Amoore hit two free throws to tie the game at four apiece. Oklahoma hit a three, but Amoore scored two consecutive buckets to give UK an 8-7 lead.

A Strack jumper gave the Cats a 10-7 lead before an Oklahoma bucket got the Sooners within one. Lawrence connected on a three to give UK a 13-9 advantage but the Sooners scored the next five to lead 14-13. UK answered with baskets from Strack, Key and Amoore to lead 19-14. Kentucky would lead 19-18 after one quarter.

Kentucky scored the first four points of the second period on layups by Amoore and Amelia Hassett. However, Oklahoma scored the next four to get within one, 23-22. A Lawrence basket gave UK a 25-22 lead but Oklahoma scored again to get within one.

Strack scored to give the Cats a 27-24 lead, but Oklahoma again cut it to one. But UK got an Amoore basket and two Strack free throws to take a 31-26 lead into the half. Amoore led all scorers with 12 points, and Strack had eight points and 12 rebounds in the first half.

Oklahoma scored the first three points of the third quarter to get within two, but UK got an Amoore basket, a Key free throw and a Clara Silva bucket to lead 36-29. An Amoore three gave Kentucky a 39-29 lead and closed an 8-0 run. However, Oklahoma answered with an 8-0 run of its own to make it 39-37.

Kentucky got a Lawrence bucket, but Oklahoma answered to get back within two. Lawrence scored again, then Silva hit two free throws, and UK led 45-39, but the Sooners scored the next eight points to lead 47-45. After Amoore tied the game at 47 apiece, Oklahoma hit a three to lead 50-47. Amoore scored just before the buzzer, but UK trailed 50-49 after three quarters.

The Cats scored the first four points of the fourth quarter on baskets by Strack and Amoore, but Oklahoma scored the next six to lead 56-53. The teams would trade baskets before UK got layups from Hassett and Lawrence to take a 59-58 lead. However, the Sooners went on an 11-3 run to put the game away.

Kentucky will return to action on the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament. Locations, pairings, dates and times will be assigned during the selection show.
