Sarah Haendiges pitched stellar Wednesday night at John Cropp Stadium, only allowing two runs on six hits, but Virginia Tech’s Emma Lemley threw a no-hitter against the Wildcats as the Hokies beat No. 23 Kentucky, 2-0.
Kentucky’s Ella Emmert broke up the perfect game in the bottom of the sixth with a two-out pinch-hit walk to give Kentucky its only baserunner of the game. The Wildcats first 17 batters were retired in order before Emmert spoiled the perfect game. Lemley threw 92 pitches in the game, walked just one batter and struck out nine.
Sarah Haendiges for Kentucky allowed only two runs in a complete game in just her second start of the season. The junior from Upland, Calif., struck out four batters and surrendered only six hits and three walks to one of the best offenses in the country. The Hokies scored once in the first and again in the fourth to close in on the 2-0 win.
Kentucky next travels to face No. 4 LSU in Baton Rouge for a three-game series with the Tigers. First pitch Friday night is schedule for 7 p.m. ET with the broadcast of all three games live on SEC Network+ and the ESPN app.
Virginia Tech is now 20-5 with Wednesday night’s win. Kentucky falls to 17-7.
