Vincent Fleming, 25, of Mayking was arrested and charged with a murder police said happened on Nov. 1.
Fleming was indicted on the murder charge by a Letcher County Grand Jury. He is suspected of killing Renata Bailey, 23. Police said Bailey’s cause of death was blunt force trauma.
Since the incident, Bailey’s family has worked to spread awareness about her death.
Bailey’s mother, Christie Smith, said her daughter was planning to attend college and become a nurse.
Smith said Bailey told her Fleming needed someone to be with, leading her daughter to spend more time with him beginning in May.
Now, the mother said she is seeking justice in response to Bailey’s death, which she believes should be beyond a life sentence in prison.
“Honest opinion would be the death penalty if he is proven guilty because, I mean, he took one of the brightest stars that we’ve had in the family,” Smith said.
Fleming will be arraigned in Letcher County Circuit Court on Dec. 4.
He is being held at the Letcher County Jail.
