A man died while in custody at Louisville Metro Corrections Friday afternoon.

Officers found a 54-year-old man, who was being housed in the medical unit, unresponsive around 3:23 p.m., Maj. Jason Logsdon, a spokesperson for the jail, said in a news release.

Logsdon said officers and medical staff performed “life saving measures” until EMS arrived and transported the man to a downtown Louisville hospital where he died about two hours later.

Logsdon said they believe the man, who had been incarcerated at Metro Corrections since March 19, 2022, died from natural causes. But the Louisville Metro Police Department’s Public Integrity Unit will investigate, which is standard protocol when any person dies while in the jail’s custody.

The man’s name will not been released until family is notified, Logsdon said.
